Antwerp Food Tour
The highlights
During this food tour you will also discover the most important highlights of Antwerp’s old city center.
- The 500 year old stunning cathedral. The one building every local loves more than anything else
- The central square with city hall and the statue depicting the legend of Brabo
- The Vlaeykensgang: a 16th century hidden, little alleyway.
- The old royal palace of Antwerp
- The meat hall, one of the oldest buildings in the city
- Stone castle, where it all began
The food
You will enjoy six food stops with delicious belgian food during this tour.
- A platter of local cuts and cheeses, right in front of the cathedral in open air. Unbeknownst to most Belgium is a fantastic cheese country, as you’ll discover.
- The most popular starter in Belgium is probably the schrimp croquette, which will be your second discovery.
- Third we stop for a taste of our national dish: Stoofvlees. Our local version of beef stew that combines great with our beers.
- Time to move on to the sweets. Next stop are some amazing belgian chocolates. You’ll discover flavour combinations you would have never expected to work.
- Of course a belgian food tour would not be complete without a delicious belgian waffle.
- Finally we’ll end the tour with our local treats, the Antwerp hands, which link back to the legend of Brabo.
The drinks
Drinks are not included in the tour, but we offer a drinks-package for those who want to discover more.
- A local champagne beer. This is a beer that gets a second fermentation in the bottle with the ‘methode champagnoise’, so there will be a hint of champagne in the aroma of the beer.
- The local city beer: Bolleke. When people in Belgium think of a Bolleke, they automatically think of Antwerp. Made by the oldest brewery in the city and named after its iconic glass.
- A local liquor with 32 herbs and spices, originally designed as medication. So not only does it taste great, it’s also good for you.
This drinks-package is available for €12 per person and can easily be added during reservation.
If you don’t book the drinks package we recommend bringing a bottle of water yourself which you can fill at water fountains throughout the city.
Where to meet
The tour start at beer shop Abbey nr 8, Handschoenmarkt 8 in Antwerp.
Please be there 10 minutes before the start of the tour. We will start the tour on time.
FAQ
Is there parking available?
Parking is easiest at the underground parking under city hall. The entrance to this parking is on the Ernest van Dijckkaai.
Are children allowed?
They are, although the tour is tailored to adults. So it might not be fun for most children.
Do we only walk around and sample food?
Absolutely not! Our tours combine architectural commentary, historical facts, local culture, culinary insight and great stories into a unique 3 hour experience. Imagine walking through the city eating our local artisans most delicious foods while learning the neighborhoods from real locals.
What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, etc.) when you purchase your tickets. Of the more common ones we can accomodate vegetarians, but not vegans. Also almost all dishes have dairy in them, so no-dairy is not possible. For anything else, please contact us and we’ll try to make it work.
Do you support corporate, or private events?
We absolutely do! We can accommodate a variety of special requests (family reunions, Birthday parties, out of town guests, corporate, conventions, festivals, parades, grand openings and more). Just send us your request to info@tastethecity.be and we’ll take care of everything.
