Antwerp Beer Tour
Overview
Discover the best local beers at authentic local spots and learn about our beer culture
During this tour you will not only taste six local beers at six beautiful, authentic locations, but you’ll also learn all about our belgian beer culture. The belgian beer culture is the only one that is officially UNESCO world heritage, and it’s a very special one indeed. It is the combination of history, tradition, extremely high quality and diversity which convinced UNESCO.
But you’ll not only learn about the beers, but also about the culture. How do we drink our beers? And where? And why is it so important to us which glass a beer is served in?And do we even have micro breweries? All of these questions and many more will be answered during this tour.
The beers
No fewer than six local beers await you. All made in Antwerp.
- We start of with a local ‘bière brut’. This is a beer made the same way as champagne is made. Sounds a bit strange? Well it tastes delicious!
- Next is our Antwerp city beer, known as ‘Bolleke‘. Nice and refreshing and named after the glass it is served in.
- One of our more modern beers, a mildly hopped blond, is next.
- Our fourth beer has a very interesting historic story. A very old beer type that completely disappeared and then resurfaced.
- Number five is a Trappist beer. These beers made by monks are as tradional as it gets.
- Finally we end the tour with a local tripel. A strong blond beer with a fruity touch.
All of these beers are served in tasting glasses of 15cl (5 ounces), so it shouldn’t be too much for anyone.
The locations
Not just six great beers, but also six great locations
- We start of in open air, right next to the Antwerp cathedral.
- Second stop is the oldest bar in the city, from 1565.
- One of the best beer bars in the city, located in the student district, is stop number three.
- Next up is the most modern bar on tour. Not a traditional belgian bar, but with a superb beer selection.
- Stop number five is an old city mansion, with a courtyard, which dates back to the 16th century.
- Our last stop is probably the most authentic belgian bar in all of Antwerp.

- Non-alcoholic alternatives can be provided for those who don’t drink or simply want to skip one or two rounds.

FAQ
Is there parking available?
Parking is easiest at the underground parking under city hall. The entrance to this parking is on the Ernest van Dijckkaai. Keep in mind drinking and driving is illegal in Belgium, so we don’t recommend coming by car for this tour.
Are children allowed?
This is an alcoholic tour, so the minimum age is 16.
So this is basically a pub crawl?
No, it is not your normal pub crawl. You will be accompanied a licensed beer expert who loves sharing his/her knowledge about beer. So it really is a guided tour and it’s more about discovering and tasting than simply drinking. That’s why we don’t accept participant who are already visibly drunk when they arrive.
What if I don’t drink beer?
If someone in your party doesn’t drink beer non-alcoholic alternatives can be provided. Other alcoholic drinks are more expensive and require a supplement.
Do you support corporate, or private events?
We absolutely do! We can accommodate a variety of special requests (family reunions, Birthday parties, out of town guests, corporate, conventions, festivals, parades, grand openings and more). Just send us your request to info@tastethecity.be and we’ll take care of everything.

Reviews
Great authentic beer. And a really friendly, enthusiastic guide… I think his name was Erwin, was very
attentive and made the experience truly enjoyable. Feel like I have a deeper understanding of Belgium
beers too.
Very nice tour with even nicer beers and interesting historical anecdotes. Very nice and knowledgeable
guide.
